Buccellati Contemporary Diamond Band Ring in 18kt Yellow Gold

Mario Buccellati was called "The Prince of Goldsmithing," with high praise in a country where precious metal work can be traced for centuries. This Buccellati diamond and mixed metals ring was made in Italy in the Contemporary Era, circa the 2010s, and is signed Buccellati, numbered, stamped, and hallmarked. It features diagonal striped bands of beautifully wrought intricate 18K yellow gold, alternating with 18K white gold set with round brilliant-cut diamonds, weighing an estimated total of 0.77 carats of F-G color and VS clarity.
The borders of the raised white gold portions are dotted with milgrain, or small grains of metal used to deliver an additional sparkle that complements the gemstones. Behind the diamonds, there is azuring in the metal. Azuring is a technique where shaped cutouts are hand-carved behind each stone to allow light in and make the diamonds shine. Mario Buccellati (1891–1965), schooled in the techniques of the thousand-year heritage of craftsmanship and goldsmithing traditions in Italy, launched his eponymous jewelry house in 1919 in Milan.
